The Center for new technologies in Urology (CENTURO)

The practice of Urology in sub-Saharan Africa takes on a particular character given the low number of urologists, the scarcity of urology services and the lack of equipment.

Also, although urological pathology is very common and varied, their treatment still requires open surgery when a simple endoscopic procedure can resolve the problems with a minimum of morbidity and mortality. In addition, endoscopy guarantees a significant reduction in the length of hospital stay. This allows for substantial savings for health structures with meager budgets.

Finally, this endoscopic training has always required the sending abroad of doctors who either receive training in conditions different from their usual practice environment, or they remain permanently abroad, aggravating the "brain drain" of which Africa continues to suffer.

For all these reasons, the creation of this regional training center will help to strengthen the skills of urologists in the field of minimally invasive surgery in general and endoscopy in particular.

Missions of the Center

This permanent center, with a regional vocation (West Africa), aims to offer initial and advanced training in endourology but also in any new technology applied to Urology and relevant for safe urological practice. .

It also offers training in basic maintenance, upkeep and disinfection of endoscopes.
